Pay Scale 2026: Grade-wise salary hike proposed, minimum set at Tk 20,000

Pay Scale 2026: After a long wait of 11 years, the National Pay Commission has finalized the proposal for the new pay scale for government employees. The commission has recommended a significant increase in the basic salary ranging from a minimum of 100 per cent to a maximum of 142 per cent across different grades.

Under the new structure, the minimum basic salary for a Grade 20 employee has been fixed at Tk 20,000, while the maximum basic salary for a Grade 1 official stands at Tk 1,60,000.

The final report of the National Pay Commission was submitted to Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Wednesday. The proposal is expected to play a crucial role in reducing the economic burden on government employees in the face of high inflation and rising living costs.

Changes in Allowances

While the annual increment remains at the current 5 per cent, the commission has proposed a major revision to the Boishakhi Allowance.

  • Boishakhi Allowance: Increased from 20 per cent to 50 per cent of the basic salary.

  • Child Disability Allowance: A new recommendation suggests an allowance of Tk 2,000 per month for employees with children with disabilities (applicable for up to two children).

Significant Pension Reforms

The new pay scale brings good news for retired personnel as well. The pension structure has been revised to provide maximum benefit to low-income pensioners.

  • Pension < Tk 20,000: Proposed increase of approximately 100%.

  • Pension Tk 20k – 40k: Proposed increase of 75%.

Implementation Timeline

Sources indicate that while there is a proposal to make the new pay scale partially effective retrospectively from January 2026, it is likely to be fully implemented from 1 July 2026, marking the beginning of the new fiscal year.

This comprehensive restructuring is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for public servants and revitalize the civil service sector.
