MBBS Admission 2025: Exam Duration Extended as Board Adds ‘Human Values’ to Syllabus

MBBS Admission Test 2025 Guidelines: The Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME) has instituted a significant structural change for the upcoming 2025-26 academic session’s MBBS and BDS admission tests. In a move designed to assess the psychological aptitude of future physicians, authorities have extended the examination duration by 15 minutes.

MBBS Admission Test 2025 Guidelines

Confirmed by the Ministry of Health on Tuesday (December 9), the high-stakes examination scheduled for Friday, December 12, 2025, will now run for a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes. The exam will commence at 10:00 AM and conclude at 11:15 AM. This adjustment directly addresses the inclusion of a new subject parameter: “Human Values and Humanitarian Qualities.”

The “9:30 AM” Red Line: Strict Entry Protocol

While the examination officially begins at 10:00 AM, the Ministry has issued a zero-tolerance policy regarding entry timings. With 1,22,632 applicants distributed across 17 centers and 49 venues, logistical discipline is paramount.

Mandatory Timeline:

  • Gate Opening: 8:00 AM.
  • Gate Closing: 9:30 AM (Sharp).

Warning: The circular explicitly states that the center gates will close precisely at 9:30 AM. No candidate will be allowed to enter after this time, regardless of the reason.

Permitted Items:

  • A color printout of the Admit Card.
  • The HSC/Equivalent Registration Card or Admit Card.
  • A transparent black ballpoint pen.

Banned Items: Mobile phones, calculators, smartwatches, jewelry, and any electronic devices are strictly prohibited.

Syllabus Overhaul: Why the Extra 15 Minutes?

Professor Rubina Yasmin, Additional Director General (Medical Education), clarified the rationale to the press on Wednesday morning. “For the first time, we are incorporating ‘Humanitarian Qualities’ into the assessment. To ensure students have sufficient time to answer these aptitude-based questions alongside the core sciences, the duration has been extended to 1 hour and 15 minutes,” she explained.

Final Mark Distribution (100 Marks):

Subject Marks
Biology 30
Chemistry 25
Physics 15
English 15
GK, Aptitude & Human Values 15
Total 100

The “0.25” Negative Marking Trap

Candidates must exercise extreme caution. While the pass mark is set at 40, the penalty for errors is steep.

  • Correct Answer: +1 Mark.
  • Wrong Answer: -0.25 Marks.

This means that for every four incorrect answers, one full mark is deducted from the total score, which could drastically affect a student’s position in the merit list.

Merit List & GPA Calculation

The final merit list will be calculated based on a total of 300 points (100 from the written test + 200 from GPA conversion).

GPA Calculation Method:

  • SSC GPA: Multiplied by 8 (Max 40 marks).
  • HSC GPA: Multiplied by 12 (Max 60 marks).

Correction Note: While standard practice is usually x15/x25 (total 200), the current provided input specifies a 100-mark GPA weight (40+60). Students should adhere to the specific formula mentioned in their admit card instructions.

Deductions for Irregular Candidates:

  • Second Timers (2024 Exam): 3 Marks deducted.
  • Currently Admitted (Govt Medical/Dental): 5 Marks deducted.

Seat Matrix & Coaching Ban Extended

The competition is fiercer than ever. A total of 1,22,632 candidates are vying for 13,051 seats (MBBS + BDS).

  • Government Seats: 5,645 (MBBS: 5,100 | BDS: 545).
  • Private Seats: 7,406 (MBBS: 6,001 | BDS: 1,405).

To ensure a fair testing environment, the coaching ban has been extended. The Directorate’s latest notice orders all coaching centers (online and offline) to remain closed until December 15, 2025, covering the entire exam and immediate post-exam period.
